Hays Travel

As the UK’s largest independent travel agency, Hays Travel offers a wealth of apprenticeships, courses and opportunities for career growth. Hays Travel has been recognised by the government as one of the country’s top apprenticeship employers. We’re proud to have been named Best Large Agency to Work for at the Travel Weekly Agent Achievement Awards this year.

We welcome experienced agents and those new to travel at Hays. Our in-house training team has received multiple awards for how they support and develop our colleagues, so even if you have never considered a career in travel, get in touch – we can help get you started in what could be the perfect industry for you.

CAREER OPTIONS

Each year, we recruit apprentices into our 490 national branches and our head office. Apprentices undertake a programme of study, while earning a salary and gaining invaluable on-the-job experience and industry knowledge.

By the end of the programme, our apprentices achieve a nationally recognised certificate at either Level 2 customer service practitioner standard or Level 3 travel consultant standard.

Further progression opportunities include mentor, rising star, aspiring manager, and aspiring leader courses. We also run a four-year graduate programme, which involves one year in a retail branch followed by three years working in several key business areas within head office.

COMPANY CULTURE

Hays Travel is a friendly and fulfilling place to work. As well as top-class training and development, we also offer everything from mental health first-aid drop-ins to meditation sessions and lunchtime walking groups. With educational trips and overseas conferences, supplier takeover days and a calendar of social events, there is lots to enjoy.

We are also proud of our Hays Travel Foundation’s work to help young people and support local projects, giving colleagues the chance to get involved in charity and community events.

Amazing performances are celebrated at a glitzy Golden Ticket event, and all colleagues are automatically entered into The Big Hays Travel Thank You with the chance to win cars, holidays, gym memberships and more.

3 of the best things about my job

Isabel Hines
Community initiatives assistant

  • After deciding that university wasn’t for me, I became a Hays Travel head office apprentice in July 2022 in our retail support team, before landing my current role as community initiatives assistant. There is a lot of room for growth in my role and at Hays Travel generally, which makes me excited to hopefully progress to a managerial position one day.
  • Working with the Hays Travel Foundation and on the Local Community Partnership scheme, my tasks range from helping our retail branches fundraise for local causes to informing charities that their funding bid has been successful. Knowing that our commitment can help make a positive difference to the wellbeing and development of young people is my favourite aspect of the job.
  • Not only do I love working with branches and different charities, but I also enjoy the flexibility and creativity of working with different head office departments. For example, I recently worked with the communications team on a Hays Travel Foundation Annual Report to raise awareness of our work.
